Daily Sketching

Been a while since I tried to do any daily sketching and post the results here, so I thought I would do just that today. A few of these sketches are of projects I am currently working on and mean stuff only to me and the way that my art projects are going, they are going quite well. All things considered I should have done this art online thing years ago, but now I'm here. I shall just do whatever....

This first sketch was a very quick sketch from a planned graphic novel and it sums myself up pretty well as I used to be this Boy looking into the water and dreaming and thinking about the future. (And still am really!) This Boy quite literally has the weight of the World on his shoulders and I can't wait to start work on this graphic novel as it has been around 12 years now since I had the idea for this epic graphic novel series with a planned 8 or 10 volumes.

This next sketch was a random quick pencil sketch of the Clive Barker horror character Rawhead Rex. I wanted to try and add more teeth in there and try and make it seem different to that movie that Clive had no connection with whatsoever. I suppose a re-working of the creature design would be a good move as it sort of does appear quite average looking at this point, but I hope to develop my own personal take on this creature and draw him in future updates. The best part about Rawhead Rex from the short story in The Books of Blood was the vague description that Clive gave him which left open a massive amount of inspiration and mystery that could be conjured up for this nasty vicious  but ultimately awesome creature (There just has to be a remake movie of Rawhead Rex, if Clive ever gets the movies rights delivered back to him by some miracle, I hope he has some involvement with it.)

Draw What You Are Best At

Drawing what you are best at is a good option for those who are stuck drawing the same thing, realise this truth and stick to what you know. I myself draw in a comic book style and have become stuck drawing this way, but I am branching out by drawing in a cartoon style too and also trying to draw and even paint some fantasy art (coming soon in the form of a few video tutorials as I learn along the way myself.)

To draw what you are best at is a good idea, as you can become the expert in your field drawing the stuff that people will come to know you for and so with this comes a great amount of critism that this is all you can draw, but do stand your ground as others are only out to make themselves feel better by putting you down. Of course there is no harm in learning other styles of drawing and this type of thing as every artist learns in there own way.

But really an artist is remembered for creating one or two types of art and that becomes their trademark in their artistic field, so you don't have to worry about the bigger picture to start with, just pratice drawing and creating what you really like creating as this is one of the best bits of advice I can give you.

Although I'm not a professional artist in the sense that I don't have any books or anything like that out yet, but I have practised my art and honed my skills over the years with drawing tattoos and fantasy art and some comic book art which also I have coming up with some posts about drawing comic book stuff which I hope you'll enjoy.

Currently I am working on improving more on my art and that is the learning process that you should be taking yourself, draw other stuff to learn, but never lose sight of the best stuff that you can draw, because you will become well known for it.

Drawing Secrets, Are There Really Any Secrets To Drawing?

Drawing secrets, yeah right, I don't think there are any secrets to drawing, as they are all out there in some form or another and further more drawing, you either get on with practising sketching or you don't, because the world of art revolves around you actually trial and erroring the way you work anyway as an artist, so test every medium to find your strengths and your weaknesses and lose the weak mediums, for me watercolour painting is my weak medium, but I will be practicing to try and improve my skills in this area.

There are no drawing secrets because no one is hiding them or with holding the truth behind drawing, it is up to the artist to draw some stuff, as much as they want!! Sorry for this rant, but I am annoyed by the apparent marketing of Drawing as hidden secrets, which they are not, fine, show how to draw something, but do not pretend that there are drawing secrets when there are not, people either choose to learn to draw or they do not, end of!

Now here is a little drawing secret...you what, shut up!!

Sorry about that little rant and rave, now what I want to do with this post is to do something different and to ask you what you are good at drawing, because I thought it would be interesting to see what we are all up to and what we all enjoy drawing the most and so I'll go first and show you my drawing.

Right now I've been drawing all day as usual and today I have drawn another demon design, but it's for a tattoo and which will be a set of 8 demon head tattoos that will all be the same size and I hope you like it, because this is what I enjoy drawing every time, monsters and demons and other wordly creatures.
