Inspired By Boris Vallejo Paintings

I often look at the professional fantasy artists work, often available in the form of books and art prints for valid reference on fantasy art.

Magnificent paintings that look realistic in terms of photo realistic skin tones and photo referenced paintings that most professional artists use.

Boris Vallejo brings to his work a lot of experience with his compositions and concept creations, teaming up with his wife Julie Bell also makes quite a tag team of more excellent paintings combined between them.

It's from these professional artists that we can learn more from and their art should be studied by us to gain a better understanding of how to...not necessarily drawn and paint exactly like them, but take our own piece of inspiration from them and create our own ways of creating fantastic fantasy art.

A Few Random Sketches

A lot of the times sketches and drawings just look ok to add to your portfolio as they are, but I would keep these to a minimum as you want your absolute best work to shine, not half finished ideas and concepts.

Dragon drawing is another favourite of mine, this dragon drawing was a simple pencil sketch which was to illustrate a how to draw dragons tutorial that I am still building now.

Demonic tattoos are very popular even today, the requirements are that they include tribal design elements that really make your tattoos look professional, I'm a huge fan of demonic fantay art and I always strive to draw this art genre as much as I can.

Another tattoo concept that is widely popular is the image of skulls, they define the picture of death, much like the art of the grim reaper, it is an icon of the tattoo age that has stood the test of time and is the most sought after choice of people wanting tattoos.

More Tentacle Demons

Tentacle demons are a particular favourite of mine to draw, as I have been inspired by many horror films and other genre comic book stuff, for me these drawings of evil just resonate for me, as most of my drawings can be used as tattoos or the first ideas in creating tattoo designs.

Unfinished drawings

All artists have lots of unfinished drawings and sketches in files and abandoned sketchbooks, take this zombie drawing I simply lost interest in it at some stage and just filed it away in a draw somewhere, and then I found it and realized I could use it for something, you can use all of your old drawings for reference for other projects.




Unfinished art is quite the idea for filing away for future use, so many times have I dug out the draft ideas of a day when I drew them, thinking I could use these for something else.

Often the chance always pops up to use past ideas and drawings.
